Addictions and Mental Health Ontario (AMHO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Holmes Weier as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective December 2, 2024. She brings over two decades of leadership experience in the nonprofit sector, most recently serving as President & CEO of Junior Achievement Central Ontario, and previously as Senior Vice President at YMCA Canada, where she successfully led efforts to foster community resilience and drive social impact.
Holmes Weier has a proven track record of dedication to supporting community organizations and building inclusive and effective teams that deliver on ambitious goals. Her extensive background in nonprofit leadership, combined with her passion for improving mental health and addictions care, positions her well to guide AMHO as it continues to advocate for better care and support for Ontarians.

With extensive experience leading membership-based organizations and strong expertise in advocacy and public policy, Jennifer is well-positioned to drive AMHO’s mission forward and champion critical mental health and addictions issues for our members,” said Lori Spadorcia, Chair of AMHO’s Board of Directors. “We would also like to extend our gratitude to Karen O’Connor, who has served as Interim CEO during this transition period. Karen’s leadership has been vital in ensuring that AMHO continued its important work during this time.”
Holmes Weier’s appointment comes on World Mental Health Day, a time to reflect on the importance of mental health for all Ontarians. Jennifer’s leadership will further AMHO’s ongoing efforts to advocate for better mental health and addiction services across the province and to support the communities who rely on these services.
“I am honoured to join AMHO as its new CEO,” said Holmes Weier. “This organization and its members play a critical role in addressing one of the most pressing challenges facing our communities today. Holmes Weier’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment for AMHO, as the organization continues to champion improvements in mental health and addiction care, advocate for its members, and work alongside government partners and sector organizations to build a stronger, more supportive system of care in Ontario.
