On behalf of TELUS and the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation, we are extremely pleased to announce that Shanan Spencer-Brown will join the Foundation as our new Executive Director, effective August 17, 2020. Reporting directly to me, Shanan will be responsible for leading our Foundation team and developing the Foundation’s multi-year strategy in collaboration with the Foundation’s Board of Directors. She will also build and drive action plans to deliver on our fundraising goals to ensure future financial independence, working closely with our Community Boards and Community Investment team.
A well-respected fundraising and not-for-profit leader, Shanan joins us with more than 20 years of experience managing comprehensive development plans including annual giving, major gifts, special events, workplace giving, donor stewardship, cause marketing and corporate sponsorship. After receiving her Masters of Social Work from the University of Toronto, Shanan started her career at Epilepsy Toronto, implementing support services for children and youth. After five years, she transitioned to the Child Development Institute, a child and youth mental health agency, where she served as Director of Development for seven years, overseeing all fund development activities and a successful multi-million dollar fundraising strategy. Shanan’s experience then led her to Kinark Child and Family Services, where she served as the founding Executive Director of the agency’s charitable foundation, responsible for all operations and fund development. Most recently, Shanan has been at the helm of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, where she developed new fundraising models, developed a remarkable 100th anniversary campaign, created three highly successful international fundraising treks, and transformed their national signature fundraising event into the largest one-day, multi-location charity garage sale in the country.
