I am delighted to announce that Shelley Darling will be joining Sunnybrook Health Science Centre as the new Vice President, Strategic Communications effective January 15, 2024. Shelley brings with her a wealth of experience and leadership in healthcare communications, making her an ideal fit for this new role.
With a remarkable 15-year tenure at Michael Garron Hospital, Shelley has demonstrated her proficiency in overseeing both internal and external communications functions. Her strategic advice has been instrumental in guiding CEOs and executive teams through major decisions in the hospital and health system landscape. Shelley's commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment is evident in her collaborative leadership style and her active involvement in mentorship roles. Shelley holds a Master of Health Administration from the University of Ottawa and is an adjunct lecturer in the Institute of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation program at the University of Toronto.
In this new position Shelley will lead Strategic Communications (formerly Communications and Stakeholder Relations) for Sunnybrook. She will be responsible for overseeing all strategic internal and external communications including continuing to elevate the Sunnybrook brand in partnership with the Foundation, while deepening engagement with our key stakeholders. As Sunnybrook embarks on a new chapter in our 75-year history that will include opening the new Garry Hurvitz Brain Science Centre, implementing a new health information system, building a new critical care tower, and redeveloping our website, Shelley’s deep knowledge of the healthcare sector together with her expertise in communications will be invaluable towards our success and achieving our vision of inventing the future of healthcare.
