The Client 

A family owned European manufacturer in the field of consumer goods with more than 100 years of history.

The Challenge 

Alpine One was approached by Boyden partner Joachim Leuck to support the advisory board of the company in the selection process within the sitting C-suite for the Speaker of the management board. The client aimed to identify the most suitable candidate by assessing not only leadership qualities but also cultural alignment, strategic vision, leadership capabilities and autonomy in decision-making. The advisory board needed to ensure that the selected internal candidate was not only prepared to step into this speaker role but was also capable of navigating potential growth areas of the company and acceptance by the other C-suite members.

 

The Solution

The process began with an initial alignment meeting to understand the client’s key priorities for the speaker role. These priorities informed the development of a tailored evaluation framework, integrating diagnostic tools and feedback from the candidates’ past performance within the company.

The internal candidates were assessed through structured interviews, incorporating company-specific case studies designed to evaluate their strategic decision-making, leadership potential, and ability to communicate effectively under pressure. Additionally, an in-depth interview was conducted to validate and explore open questions related to each candidate’s personality.

The evaluation findings were compiled into a comprehensive report, highlighting each candidate’s strengths, areas for development, and overall alignment with the role’s demands. Moreover, the advisory board gained valuable insights into team composition and the role of each C-level member within the team. The report also provided an analysis of team dynamics, outlining similarities and differences, and offering a clearer understanding of how each individual’s strengths and contributions align within the leadership team.

This detailed report was shared with the advisory board, facilitating an informed discussion on the most suitable candidate and their specific support needs during the promotion process.
