Barrie, ON - Dec 15, 2022
After a thorough search process that included the use of a leading recruitment firm, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) officially announces the appointment of Leanne Weeks as RVH’s Vice President, Clinical and Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) effective January 23, 2023.
“Leanne brings to the position a unique portfolio of healthcare leadership spanning over 10 years, including six years in acute care at RVH and the last four years as the Operations Director, Surgery and Maternal, Newborn, Child and Youth programs. She’s well respected by both her operational colleagues and physician leaders, and has a strong track record in leading successful change and quality improvement of clinical programs,” says Gail Hunt, RVH president and CEO. “I’m confident Leanne will continue to be an invaluable member of our team as she brings her wealth of knowledge, passion for people, as well as her courage to initiate change.”
Weeks has had opportunities to participate and lead several committees and regional initiatives. Highlights of that collaborative work include:
• Securing Ontario Health funding for the Regional Hospital Led Nurse Education Program, for which she served as regional lead representing RVH as the lead agency.
• Co-chair for the RBC Race for the Kids 2021, which successfully fundraised to open RVH’s low-risk mental health Emergency department waiting area.
• Secured close to $1 million for the expansion and implementation of Eating Disorders Services with funding sources that included Ontario Health and TD Bank partnerships and served as the regional lead representing RVH.
• Peer Elected Co-chair of the multi-sectoral Provincial Special Needs Strategy Project, which facilitated an entire system redesign for children with complex special needs. This project scope included the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Community and Social Services and Ministry of Children and Youth Services with provincial recognition of the system’s success.
“I’m excited about this new opportunity and thrilled to be a part of RVH’s plans for the future which will change the landscape of healthcare in this region. I look forward to being a member of a senior leadership team focused on bringing services and care closer to home,” says Leanne Weeks.
Weeks’ academic background includes a Master of Nursing with Leadership Focus from Athabasca University (in progress), and a Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSCN) from the University of Windsor.
