August 25, 2020 - Ottawa, ON
The Board of Directors has appointed Dr. Kathi Kovacs as Chief of Staff to the approximately 350 physicians and midwives affiliated with Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH), adding her as a vital member of the hospital’s senior leadership team.
Prior to her appointment, Dr. Kovacs served as the hospital’s Chief of Psychiatry, helping to redesign and transform the Mental Health program to improve patient outcomes and access to care, well beyond peer benchmarks.
Dr. Kovacs has been a key part of the QCH team since joining the hospital more than 20 years ago. She previously worked at the Royal Mental Health Centre and is an active member of several regional planning committees. She is also a proud member of the Jewish community, and co-founder of a local private Jewish high school.
“Dr. Kovacs is a trusted and experienced leader and the Board is confident that she is uniquely well-suited to this important role,” said Ken Alger, Board Chair. “These are challenging times for hospitals, and Dr. Kovacs is an enthusiastic and empathetic leader who can foster the wellness and resilience of patients, staff and physicians today — while applying her strategic perspective as we position the hospital for the future.”
The Board conducted a rigorous process, involving an external search firm, with active involvement from physicians and patients.
Queensway Carleton Hospital has built its reputation as a leading acute care hospital by seeing the person in each of the nearly 500,000 people who turn to it for care every year. QCH’s agility and collaborative culture enable it to respond quickly to the most pressing healthcare challenges facing this vibrant and growing community through advanced programs that reinvent models of patient care.
