Boyden is pleased to share the appointment news of Dr. Stéphane Roux, who joins Montfort after a career as a doctor and pilot in the Canadian Forces
Ottawa, CANADA September 13, 2019 – It is with great pleasure that Mr. Carl Nappert, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Hôpital Montfort, has just announced the name of the hospital's next medical leader. Dr. Stéphane Roux will join the Montfort team after a career as a doctor and pilot in the Canadian Forces.
He will replace Dr. Guy Moreau as the Chief of Staff at Montfort when he completes his second and last term in December 2019.
Stéphane Roux joined the Canadian Forces as a pilot in 1989. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Université Laval in 1992 and his helicopter pilot’s licence in 1994. During his six years as a pilot, Stéphane Roux served in Haiti and Kosovo and accumulated more than 2200 flight hours; he held the positions of Flight Safety Officer, Public Affairs Officer, Section Lead and Test Pilot.
In 2000, he reoriented his career by joining the military medicine program at Université Laval. After obtaining his family medicine license in 2006, he served as Wing Surgeon and then as Commanding Officer of the clinic on the Canadian military base in Bagotville. He deployed to United Arab Emirates and then served as Medical Liaison Officer at the Canadian Embassy in Washington.
From 2015 to 2018, he was Chief Medical Officer for the National Capital Region and Europe, while also serving as Commanding Officer of the Canadian Forces Health Services Centre Ottawa, located in the D Wing of the Montfort. He then served at the Canadian Forces Health Services Headquarters in Ottawa. In June 2019, he was promoted to Royal Canadian Air Force Surgeon.
Dr. Stéphane Roux joins the Montfort team as a family physician and will become Chief of Staff in December 2019.
Carl Nappert also warmly thanked Dr. Guy Moreau for the excellent work he has done over the past ten years.
“When Dr. Moreau was appointed head of the Medical Team in 2009, the hospital was in the process of building the New Montfort,” says Carl Nappert. “Under his leadership, the medical profession has almost doubled, and now includes more than 350 doctors and 24 midwives. New specialties have enriched patient services such as dermatology, physiatrist, geriatrics, palliative care and infectious diseases. He contributed to the growth of Montfort as a teaching hospital and the number of medical specialty residents being trained here has increased. We owe much to Dr. Moreau for the diligence, attention and exemplary dedication he has shown in each of his actions over the years.”
The Chief Medical Officer ensures the continuous improvement of the quality of services and care provided at Montfort. The new incumbent was identified after a pan-Canadian search.
