Celebrating the difference women make in the world and how balance is better for business.
Today we celebrate International Women’s Day, marking the impact that women make worldwide to economic, social and political progress. Global colleagues join me in voicing Boyden’s on-going commitment to do our part.
Although this is a special day, at Boyden we spend every day identifying and connecting exceptional female and male leaders for clients in commercial and social enterprise.
While we celebrate progress, there is much more to do to diversify the workforce. At Boyden, we acknowledge that all are contributors to the solution. For gender diversity, our support for the 30% Club and Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association is part of our own global campaign to #DisruptTheNorm, focusing on all social groups.
Companies with mixed gender boards perform better; women influence up to 80 percent of global buying decisions and control $20 trillion of global consumer spending. Yet women hold just 24 percent of senior roles globally1. For business to flourish in future, this needs to change.
We celebrate women and we celebrate men. Our recent research on ‘Furthering Female Leadership’ reveals the significant part men play in recognizing and enabling female talent.
“I can point to three men, all bosses, in my career who gave me something which triggered me to another level,” says one of our respondents and Executive Director in industry.
Another respondent and Chairman of an FMCG board says, “I have often been asked to give career advice. The classic answer is to choose the right boss. It will give you self-confidence when they help you to grow”.
Whether male or female, headhunter or boss, a balanced world is a better world. We are all contributors to the solution and we are all beneficiaries of the results.
