Boyden is pleased to share the appointment news of Victoria Schmid, a recruitment led by Lisa Kershaw and Brent Cameron.
July 22, 2021 - After an extensive national search, the Board of Directors of the BC Health Care Occupational Health and Safety Society has appointed Victoria Schmid as the Society’s founding Chief Executive Officer. The Society’s model, unique in Canada, brings together employers, unions, and Doctors of BC to support and invest in province wide activities to improve the health and safety of health care workers.
Board Chair, Roberta Ellis, led a search committee of the Board, with representation from employers, unions and Doctors of BC, who unanimously recommended Ms. Schmid’s appointment to this critical health and safety leadership role.
“Victoria is an exceptionally talented health sector executive, currently the Vice President of Pandemic Planning at Vancouver Island Health Authority. Her knowledge of and experience in the BC and Canadian health care systems is extensive and from her work in Saskatchewan to her work here she has championed the health, safety and well-being of health care workers,” said Ellis.
The Society sought a leader who is an experienced health care executive demonstrably committed to worker health and safety. The position required a collaborative decision maker; an executive committed to building business intelligence and evidence informed strategies to guide systemic OHS improvements; an innovator who has demonstrated that by working together we can realise improvements in worker health and safety and reverse the significant human and financial toll the health care sector is experiencing from injury and illness.
Ms. Schmid holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Saskatchewan and a Masters of Health Sciences Leadership from the Centre for Nursing and Health Studies at Athabasca University.
She will take up her duties as CEO on August 30, 2021.
