Appointment of New AMS Healthcare CEO
The Board of Directors of AMS Healthcare is pleased to announce the appointment of Helen Angus as Chief Executive Officer effective July 1, 2022.
Helen has a demonstrated ability to lead complex organizations and inspire others to drive systems-level change. From 2018 – 2021 she was Deputy Minister in the Ontario Ministry of Health, where she helmed Ontario’s initial health response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She also held provincial posts at the Treasury Board Secretariat, and International Trade, Citizenship and Immigration. She is currently a distinguished fellow at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.
Helen is first and foremost a leader in the health care sector. In addition to her recent role as Deputy in the Ministry of Health, she played a critical leadership role in the groundbreaking work of Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) and as co-chair of the Council of Deputy Ministers of Health. Helen has had a role in shaping health system direction from wide and diverse perspectives and has built an extensive understanding of the system as well as a rich network both In Ontario and across the country
We believe Helen’s deep experience in overseeing innovative programing and scaling those with demonstrated results for system impact will enable her to take AMS Healthcare to even greater heights. Ensuring a smooth transition for the organization, Gail and Helen will work together for the next several months.
Gail Paech’s Legacy at AMS Healthcare
After ten years at the helm of AMS Healthcare, Gail Paech will be ending her tenure on June 30th, 2022. In the past decade she has grown AMS from an organization focused on the history of medicine, into one committed not only to broadly advancing the humanities in healthcare but also to enhance humanism as a guiding principle in the delivery of care by all the professions. Gail understood the impact that the rapid integration of technology in healthcare would have ahead of many. She worked to refocus AMS’ initiatives to include promoting the education and practice of compassionate care; fostering new delivery models of compassionate care; and facilitating the leadership needed to realize the promise of technology, while safeguarding humanistic care in the system. We are sure that she will continue to put her boundless energy and limitless skills to use tackling the healthcare challenges of our times.
