Vice President of Development
Legacy Lifecare

The Organization: Legacy Lifecare

Legacy Lifecare is a network of charitable, nonprofit senior care organizations. Founded in 2018 by Chelsea Jewish Lifecare and JGS Lifecare, the mission of Legacy Lifecare is to enable its nonprofit Affiliates to thrive by providing access to managerial resources ordinarily only available to large, primarily proprietary organizations.

The Legacy Lifecare model provides the “best of both worlds” for its Affiliates: cost-effective access to the sophisticated systems and personnel needed to compete in today’s complex world, while preserving each organization’s unique identities, missions, and local governance. Legacy’s purpose is best encapsulated in its tagline: “Securing Legacies, Together”.

Legacy Lifecare’s mission is to help small-to-mid-sized, values-driven senior care organizations navigate the complexities of modern healthcare through the provision of consulting, affiliation, and management services. Partners have access to sophisticated managerial systems and general infrastructure ordinarily only available to larger chains, permitting them to thrive while remaining true to their mission.

Legacy Lifecare's knowledge, experience, and passion set them apart, ensuring Affiliates can secure their own legacy of caregiving—not only for today but for all future generations.

Full Member Affiliates:

These Affiliates receive management and other services from Legacy Lifecare. They participate in the governance of, and help to set the direction for, the future of the organization.

Chelsea Jewish Lifecare:

For over 100 years, Chelsea Jewish Lifecare (CJL), located in Chelsea, Massachusetts, has compassionately cared for individuals through a variety of services and residences. Today the organization has grown to include assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, independent living, adult day health, VNA/hospice, and specialty homes for those who are vent dependent and living with ALS and MS.

CJL's Mission: To honor the philosophies inherent in our history by providing compassionate care in “real” homes while envisioning a world in which high quality long-term residential and short term post-acute care is available in every community to every person.

The Leonard Florence Center for Living (LFCL) at Chelsea Jewish Lifecare

The award-winning Leonard Florence Center for Living (LFCL), one of the prominent facilities at Chelsea Jewish Lifecare, is unlike any other skilled nursing facility. LFCL is the country’s first urban Green House® residence located in Chelsea, MA. With fifty rooms devoted to individuals diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), MS (multiple sclerosis) and others requiring ventilation care, this award-winning specialized residence changes the way people are living with these diseases. The Center sets the stage for a model of care far removed from traditional nursing homes. Today, the Leonard Florence Center takes care of more individuals living with ALS under one roof than any other place in the world.

The Green House® Model (GH Model) is a trademarked model with structural, procedural, and philosophical components defined by the national Green House Project. As defined by the national office, the GH model is based on three values - real home, meaningful life, and empowered staff. These values are established through the creation of small, residential‐style houses located in community neighborhoods. Often, these small houses are affiliated with the original founding nursing home - termed the legacy home - that remains open alongside its GH home(s). The GH model strives to eliminate the expectations associated with traditional nursing home roles (e.g., “resident,” “nursing assistant”) and avoids related terminology in its quest to do so. Per the model, GH homes house 10–12 residents - called elders - who each have a private room and attached bath; share a central living space with an open kitchen, dining, and living area or hearth; and have access to outdoor space. Meals are to be prepared in the open kitchen by caregivers and are shared at a common dining table in the spirit of convivium.

JGS Lifecare:

Founded over 100 years ago, JGS Lifecare presents a continuous legacy in the Longmeadow community, serving as a much sought-after care center. The organization fulfills the mission of the Daughters of Zion while rising to the complicated delivery of care and compassion that connotes today’s modern health care system. A founding member of Legacy Lifecare, JGS offers a full spectrum of care: independent living, assisted living, memory care, adult day health, and skilled nursing. In 2016, JGS opened the Sosin Center for Rehabilitation, the first Green House® certified facility in western Massachusetts, ushering in a new model of short-term rehabilitation care in a home-like environment.

In an effort to address staffing shortages and out of an organizational commitment to help the local community, JGS developed a Trained Nursing Assistant program, which takes place on-site. JGS and Legacy Lifecare recognized the need to remove the barriers that often deter people from becoming a CNA: the cost of the training and the time that must be invested, which most often is unpaid time. The program pays students while affording them free training to get their CNA license. The program has graduated over 60 students since its launch in 2021, with over 20 hired by JGS Lifecare.

JGS' Mission: JGS Lifecare is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the physical, spiritual and emotional health of individuals and families by providing a comprehensive range of health, education and social services guided by Jewish traditions and values.

Deutsches Altenheim:

Established over a century ago, Deutsches Altenheim was originally designed to serve as a retirement residence for elderly German Americans. Today, the caring and committed staff continues to serve elders who are in need of full range senior care services for those who value excellence in elder care.

Through the continued generosity of supporters, Deutsches Altenheim remains a pillar of the Greater Boston community and continues to offer superior senior care in a trusting and experienced environment. Today, Deutsches Altenheim offers their residents long term care, post-acute rehabilitation and outpatient rehabilitation, memory care, adult day health services and assisted living opportunities.

With dignity and compassion, Deutsches Altenheim welcomes individuals of all nationalities, races and religions to become part of their community.
