Candidate Profile

Priority Criteria

      1. Experience:  The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, with a minimum of three years of accounting experience, preferably working in an organization with parallels to hospitality and retail. Having worked in a team environment with diverse stakeholder groups, candidates will bring knowledge of financial planning, analysis and strategies. Knowledge of government accounting reporting procedures, IFRS and ASPE would be considered assets.
      2. Technical Expertise: Has a degree in Business Administration, preferably with a specialization in accounting or finance. Has a professional accounting designation (CPA) or is working toward one. Has the ability to identify financial risks and opportunities and provide sound advice that contributes to well-informed decision-making. Able to research, analyze, forecast outcomes and develop recommendations related to financial or accounting processes.
      3. Strategic Business Partner:  Has clearly demonstrated an ability to function as a business partner to the management team, preferably for growing, geographically dispersed businesses. Has provided excellent reporting, analysis, business support, and due diligence.
      4. Leadership:  A highly collaborative, engaged and inspiring leader with a reputation for developing strong teams that are committed to adding value and supporting financial and operational objectives. Prepared to roll up sleeves and get hands-on to develop the team and ensure deadlines are met. Has the strength of character required to support a dispersed and growing business where market challenges and jurisdictional differences affect business practices.
      5. Business Savvy:  Superb business acumen and a keen interest in the operations. Believes in being a visible leader who wants to understand how companies operate. Able to prioritize work effectively to meet tight deadlines and to accurately define and effectively address problems as they arise.
      6. Communication:  Able to prepare written communications that are clear and concise. A consummate team player with superb interpersonal and transparent communication skills. Able to establish and maintain positive relationships across the organization and with all internal and external stakeholders. Can communicate effectively with all levels of management and the broader community. 
      7. Character:  Able to exercise sound judgment and tact when dealing with stakeholders. Leads with integrity; is trustworthy, loyal, consistent and projects a clear and visible set of values and beliefs. Deals honestly but sensitively with others. Solid attention to detail. Ideally has worked in a cross-cultural environment.
      8. Style:  A dynamic, positive, confident self-starter with a sense of humour. Does not take themselves too seriously. Sociable. Approachable and can enjoy the perks and fun that comes from working in the hospitality sector.
      9. Location:  Family situation and personal interests are conducive to living in the North.
