When Jean-Paul Sartre wrote “Hell is other people” in his 1944 play No Exit, he wasn’t talking about office politics, performance reviews, and dysfunctional teams… but he could have been. Our colleagues can be the best – and worst – parts of our job. We rely on each other to grow and thrive professionally… or at the very least, to get the work done. But what happens when one person distracts, disrupts, or throws a team into disarray? And as we navigate the Great Resignation, an increase in flexible-work options, and connecting with staff more frequently over computer screens than coffee cups, how do we mitigate negativity and maximize productivity and positivity? This session will offer advice and guidance from the manager’s on-the-ground perspective, as well as through the HR lens, to help attendees minimize the impact of a difficult employee on team morale, managers’ time, and organizational success. Suitable for managers at all levels or anyone interested in strengthening working relationships.
