Experience: A generalist lawyer who has managed complex and multi-stakeholder corporate commercial files who provides clients with legal and business advice and counsel on a broad range of corporate issues including contracts, regulatory issues, labour, corporate governance, securitizations, acquisitions, and divestitures. Experience as in-house counsel in a complex business with parallels to Inuvialuit Regional Corporation and/or its subsidiaries also an asset. 

Education: LLB/JD and eligible to be a member in good standing with Law Society of the Northwest Territories.

Expertise:  Has the technical expertise to manage the legal requirements of an organization that operates in an environment with complex contractual, regulatory, constitutional, and operating issues, and a wide variety of commercial and corporate agreements.  Possesses advanced knowledge of contract management, financing, corporate and board governance, regulatory, and compliance practices. Has broad interests and ideally brings exposure to a variety of legal issues.

Strategic Thinking:  Thinks in broad business terms and sees the big picture in which the organization functions. Looks for opportunities to support the organization in the achievement of its operational and strategic objectives. Looks at business issues, community impacts and intent before supplying a legal opinion.

Cultural Fit: A respectful relationship builder who takes time to understand the issues and others’ perspectives before jumping in with ideas. Takes an interest in Inuvialuit values and culture. Can learn and add value simultaneously. Trustworthy and works to earn credibility and trust with others.

In-depth Problem Solving and Analysis: Able to solve problems and issues through careful and systematic evaluation of information, possible alternatives, and consequences. Self-motivated and able to work independently on files with little direction or supervision.

Business Focused:Relates to operational issues. Invests time developing an understanding of the business drivers facing the organization. Sees opportunities, anticipates challenges, and analyzes impact. Is considered a contributor to discussions around business tactics and strategies.

Communication Skills: Exceptional written communication skills. Able to convey complex information in a clear, concise manner in written documents that can be understood by organizational leaders who will typically have little or no legal training or expertise. Highly detail oriented.
