Calgary, AB - June 3, 2020
Announcement by Bow Valley College, Vice President, Academic, Misheck Mwaba:
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Cheryl Kinzel as Interim Dean, Research and Innovation, effective August 4, 2020, for a term of two years.
Cheryl has held several positions with the College over the past seven years including Associate Dean (Research and Innovation), Director (Centre of Early Development and Applied Research), as well as Program Coordinator and instructor roles with the School of Community Studies. Her teaching and learning experience spans from early learning development to K-12 and post-secondary levels in the 20 years she has spent dedicated to the education space.
She has been an integral member of the campus community and actively furthers the student experience through the Learner Success Committee, Indigenization Strategy Working Group, and Indigenous Research and Partnerships Working Group. She currently chairs the Academic Operations Committee and Competency-Based Education Committee. She brings extensive teaching and curriculum development experience and has been essential in the development of the competency-based education strategy for both curriculum and professional development at Bow Valley College. She has also been the architect of the five-year Applied Research plan, a plan that positions us well to broaden our applied research agenda.
Cheryl holds a Doctor of Education (Education Research – Adult Learning) from the University of Calgary and completed her Master of Education at the University of British Columbia.
She brings a dual perspective to the Academic and Research Priorities at the College through leadership roles in both academic and research areas and will continue to do so in her new capacity. The Research and Innovation team includes applied research, teaching and learning enhancement, learning innovation, and workforce development.
Mary Boulton will continue serving as Interim Dean until July 31, 2020. I would like to thank Mary for her contributions so far and look forward to working with her in the next two months.
Please join me in congratulating Cheryl on her new role.
Stay well and keep connected as we continue to work remotely and navigate these unprecedented times together.
