Security Engineer
BCI

February 2024

Essence of the Opportunity

With over $233 billion of gross assets under management, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is one of the largest institutional investors in Canada. Since its inception in 2000, BCI has grown significantly and is now regarded as one of the most influential financial institutions globally investing across a range of asset classes and strategies in public and private markets. BCI employs over 650 people across offices in Victoria, Vancouver, New York and London. Being recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, Canada’s Top Family-Friendly Employers and BC’s Top Employers exemplifies BCI’s ongoing commitment to be a progressive workplace of choice; one that attracts, retains, and promotes talent so that we can continue to work towards helping British Columbian public sector clients build financially secure futures.

The growth and evolution of the organization have led to a significant investment in technology. Combined with the evolving risk landscape, BCI has also invested considerably in its security organization, stressing an ability to design, build, and implement robust security frameworks and technologies. This continued investment implies no shortage of priorities for the department and creates a demand for experienced security engineering talent. Adding a new Security Engineer to the team will be critical to the success of BCI’s Security & Risk program.

Reporting to the Manager, Security & Risk, the Security Engineer will play a key role in developing and implementing cutting-edge security solutions in a team responsible for managing security processes, products, and projects of varying complexity. Collaborating closely with business partners in an Agile hybrid environment, the Security Engineer helps ensure the secure and efficient delivery of high-quality products.

The ideal candidate is passionate about cybersecurity and brings relevant hands-on experience in information security roles, demonstrating a deep understanding of secure systems engineering and the ability to drive security programs in large, complex environments. They ideally have experience assisting with the implementation of security programs and solutions for large, complex environments and bring proficiency in Agile/Scrum and DevOps methodologies within MS Azure cloud environments. Proficiency in implementing and integrating security tools, including PAM (Privilege Access Management) and Identity Governance Platforms, and familiarity with zero-trust frameworks would be compelling. Experience with cybersecurity automation and the integration of best-in-breed security tools would be viewed favorably.

Based in Victoria or Vancouver, BC, this is a unique opportunity to take on an impactful role in safeguarding the assets of hundreds of thousands of citizens while also implementing cutting-edge security technologies for one of the largest institutional investors globally.
